What is Essentrics?
Page Title
Essentrics is a fitness regime started by Miranda Esmonde-White. in Montreal, Canada. She struggled to find a workout that allowed her to keep the long, lean, strong muscles she had developed as a ballet dancer. She has worked to connect the science of strength and flexibility into a workout that is challenging, yet accessible to almost all bodies. It includes a full-body workout, often in one hour, that focuses on muscle strength and endurance, range of motion, flexibility, posture, mind-body connection and breath. It can serve as a starting point for those getting back into exercise, or be a supplement to athletes who often perform the same movements extensively. For most of us, it fits somewhere in between and allows us to feel strong, agile and healthy.

Classes consist of a continuous series of exercises that allow one to work hard in an area of the body and then rest that area while another area is worked. The first time one joins class can be a little overwhelming as there is a lot of information. It is suggested to just follow along with the instructor and soak up as much as possible. The movement is often repeated for several classes in a row in order to allow for more ease, and to absorb more information about how to move in each exercise. This allows for some anticipation about what is next but ultimately even a small amount of understanding in each exercise is beneficial to the body.
